Allah's Name Al-Wadud  (The Most Loving )

The manifestations of Allah's Name Al-Wadud  (The Most Loving) in the sacred month of Ramadan:

Allah's Name 'Al-Wdud' is mentioned in the following Noble Ayah in which He says:

"And He is Oft-Forgiving, full of love (towards the pious who are real true believers of Islamic Monotheism),"

[Al-Buruj, 14]

The meanings of 'Al-Wadud'

Linguistically, the word ' Wadud' is an exaggerated formula which is stronger in meaning than 'Waad'; the word which describes the doer of the action, and which is derived from the root ' Wud'. But what does the word 'Wud' mean? Let's ponder over some of its meanings.
The first meaning of 'Al-Wadud'
In Arabic, the word 'Wud' means 'Hub' (love), which is derived from 'Habab' (the teeth whiteness). In other words, whoever loves Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He; has a pure, sincere, and clean heart (whose purity can be likened to the pearl-white teeth).
Moreover, the phrase: the camel 'Ahaba' means it knelt down, which resembles the submissiveness of the lover to the beloved.
However, there is a slight difference between 'Hub' and 'Wud' , i.e. the word 'Hub' means the feeling of love which comes from one's heart, while the word 'Wud' means the behavior which reflects that warm feeling. In other words, 'Hub' is the strong feeling of deep affection for the one you love, while 'Wud' is the acts through which you show your love, such as smiling to him, giving him a gift, helping him solve a problem, paying him a visit when he is sick, etc. Thus, 'Hub' refers to one's inner emotions while 'Wud' refers the concrete manifestation of these emotions. Accordingly, the word 'Wud' has broader sense than the word 'Hub', i.e. he who feels 'Wud' towards someone definitely feels 'Hub' towards him, but the reverse is not true.
When it comes to Allah's Name 'Al-Wadud' (The Most Loving),

Allah's creation of the entire universe is a sign of His Love to His servants. In other words, the creation of the entire universe; the creation of galaxies, the sun, the moon, the rain, the thousands of kinds of flowers which have various colors and scents, and the different kinds of fruits, etc. is a sign of Allah's Love for us.
Furthermore, Allah the Almighty shows His love for us through showering His Endless Blessings upon us, such as our kids who make our life full of love and happiness, our spouses whom He has honored us with, and everything which is created for the benefit of mankind, such as the wool from which we made warm clothes to protect us from the cold weather of winter, etc.

Thus, Allah the Almighty loves His worshippers, and His love for them is mentioned in the following Noble Ayah in which He says:

"O you who believe! Whoever from among you turns back from his religion (Islam), Allah will bring a people whom He will love and they will love Him; humble towards the believers, stern towards the disbelievers,"

[Al-Ma'idah, 54]

Furthermore, Allah's Love for His worshippers is manifested in the Great Graces He bestows upon them although He is Al-Ghani (the Free of need of them).

 The second meaning of Al-Wadud:

'Al-Wadud' also means He Who creates warm affection between His creatures. In other words, let me ask you these questions: Who put love into the hearts of mothers towards their kids? Who created the loving feelings, mercy and affection between spouses? It is Allah Al-Wadud (the Most Loving).
Allah the Almighty says:

"And among His Signs is this, that He created for you wives from among yourselves, that you may find repose in them, and He has put between you affection and mercy. Verily, in that are indeed signs for a people who reflect."

[Ar-Rum, 21]

Relation between the believer and Allah's Name 'Al-Wadud'

As for the application of Allah's Name ' Al-Wadud' in the believer's life, he should show his love for Allah the Almighty through performing acts of obedience to Him. In addition, he should express his love for people through doing well to them and treating them with kindness and mercy.
In conclusion, during the sacred month of Ramadan, Allah's Name Al-Wadud is manifested when Allah makes His worshipers feel that they are loved by Him. Furthermore, He orders them to show their love for others through saying kind words to them and through giving Sadaqah (voluntary charity) for His Sake Alone.
