Radio Sermon(27): Rulings of Hajj

In the Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, O Lord, to You is praise as befits the Glory of Your Face and the greatness of Your Might. Glory be to you, I seek refuge in You from You, I am not capable of extolling You as You have extolled Yourself.

O Lord, what a great honor to have you as our Lord, and how honored we are to be your servants. O Lord, whoever is not honored by obeying You will remain humiliated, whoever is not healed by Your Book will keep sick, whoever is not rich by being always in need of Your Support will remain poor, and whoever does not worship you as You deserve will be a slave to others.

I bear witness that there is no Deity worthy of worship but You Alone Who has no partner. O Lord, You have created man in the best stature, and You have decreed and willed things to happen; You have decreed someone's death and someone else's life, You have decreed someone's illness and someone else's recovery, You have helped someone to overcome a calamity and tried someone else with a calamity, You have decreed to make someone rich and make another one poor, You have caused someone to be happy and someone else to be sad. O Allah all matters and affairs return to You Alone; we have been created to worship You and to return to You.

I bear witness that you, O our Master, good example, ruler, and beloved, O Aba al-Qasem is Allah's Messenger. I bear witness that you conveyed the Message, fulfilled the trust, gave sincere advice to your nation, lifted hardship with Allah's Help, strove truly for the Sake of Allah, guided the worshippers to the Right Path, and made Du'a to Allah in Ta'if by saying:

(To You, my Lord, I complain of my weakness, lack of support and the humiliation I am made to receive. Most Compassionate and Merciful! You are the Lord of the weak, and you are my Lord. To whom do You leave me? To a distant person who receives me with hostility? Or to an enemy You have given power over me? As long as you are not displeased with me, I do not care what I face. I would, however, be much happier with Your mercy. I seek refuge in the light of Your face by which all darkness is dispelled and both this life and the life to come are put in their right course against incurring your wrath or being the subject of your anger. To You, I submit, until I earn Your pleasure. Everything is powerless without your support.)

[At-Tabarani, on the authority of Abdullah bin Ja'far]

O my Master, Allah's Messenger, Muslims desperately need to reconcile with their Lord, to be sincere to their religion, to follow your guidance, O Allah's Messenger, to apply your Sunnah, and to make the same Du'a you used to make to Allah, so that may Allah get them off this dark period, relieve them from this hardship and make them victorious over their enemy.

"My Lord! Let my entry (to the city of Al-Madinah) be good, and likewise my exit (from the city of Makkah) be good. And grant me from You an authority to help me (or a firm sign or a proof)."

"O my Lord! Open for me my chest (grant me self-confidence, contentment, and boldness) And ease my task for me And make loose the knot (the defect) from my tongue, (i.e. remove the incorrectness from my speech) [That occurred as a result of a brand of fire which Musa (Moses) put in his mouth when he was an infant]. That they understand my speech."

"My Lord! Bestow Hikman (religious knowledge, right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood) on me, and join me with the righteous."

O worshippers of Allah, I advise you, me included, to fear Allah, I urge you to obey Him, and I start this Khutbah with good matters.

First sermon:

Hajj:

1-    Hajj is Fard Ayn:

Dear brothers in faith and Islam, Allah, may His Glory be Glorified, says:

(Verily, the first House (of worship) appointed for mankind was that at Bakkah (Makkah), full of blessing, and a guidance for Al-'Alamin (the mankind and jinns)* In it are manifest signs (for example), the Maqam (place) of Ibrahim (Abraham); whosoever enters it, he attains security. And Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah) to the House (Ka'bah) is a duty that mankind owes to Allah, those who can afford the expenses (for one's conveyance, provision and residence); and whoever disbelieves [i.e. denies Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah), then he is a disbeliever of Allah], then Allah stands not in need of any of the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns).)

[Aal-'Imran, 96-97]

Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah) is Fard Ayn (an individual duty ordained on every Muslim), male, female, adult, sane, free, and able. It is performed once in one's life span. Those who deny it are considered unbelievers, and those who neglect it are deemed debauchers. Regarding this point, pay attention to the following Hadith:

(Ali narrated that: The Messenger of Allah said: "Whoever has the provisions and the means to convey him to Allah's House and he does not perform Hajj, then it does not matter if he dies as a Jew or a Christian. That is because Allah said in His Book: 'And Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah) to the House (Ka'bah) is a duty that mankind owes to Allah, those who can afford the expenses (for one's conveyance, provision and residence)' ")

[At-Tirmithi]

2-    Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam:

Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam, which are referred to as the basics of this religion.

(Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said: Islam is based on (the following) five (principles): To testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and Muhammad is Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him), to offer the (compulsory congregational) prayers dutifully and perfectly, to pay Zakat (i.e. obligatory charity), to perform Hajj (i.e. Pilgrimage to Makkaha), and to observe fast during the month of Ramadan.)

[Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

3-    Hajj is an obligation performed once in one's life:

Hajj is a verbal, heartedly, physical, financial and ritual act of worship. It is performed in certain places and at specific times. As you know Salat (Prayer) is performed five times a day, Jumu'ah Salat (Friday prayer) is performed once a week, Siyaam (fasting) is performed in Ramadan (in one month of the year), and Hajj is performed only once during one's lifetime. The last fact about Hajj is referred to in the following Hadith of Allah's Messenger, peace be upon him:

(Ibn Abbas said: Aqra' ibn Habis asked the Prophet (peace be upon him) saying: Messenger of Allah hajj is to be performed annually or only once? He replied: Only once, and if anyone performs it more often, he performs a supererogatory act.)

[Abu Dawood, An-Nasa'i and Ahmad]

4-    Hajj is a sincere journey to  Allah:

Hajj is a journey to Allah. Due to His Will and Profound Wisdom, Allah the Almighty decreed that a Sacred House had to be built, taking into account the tangible nature of man, so that believers come from every deep and distant place to visit it and express their profound love to Allah, and their great yearning for Him. In fact, the believer confirms, by heading towards the Sacred House, his response to His Lord's Call, and that Allah is dearer to them than their own household, wealth, work, homeland and everything else. He spends  expenses, and he endures leaving his children, people, which is not easy at all, his work and earning, that might be too dear to him, only to express his love to Allah and seek to be close to Him.

The special characteristics of the place where Allah's Sacred House is located:

Due to Allah's Wisdom, His Sacred House is located  in a very hot part of the world; in an uncultivable valley, to make it clear to the pilgrims that real connection with Allah produces enough spiritual happiness that dispenses them from all materialistic elements they mistakenly think are causes of their happiness. Also, to make the pilgrims realize that real happiness comes from inside and not from the various trivial adornments they have.

Had the Sacred House of Allah been in a spot where the weather is warm, and there are green mountains, fresh water, pure lakes, luxuriant gardens, cool weather, and gentle soft breeze, and had Hajj been performed throughout the whole year to avoid over-crowdedness, all people would have hurried joyfully to perform such enjoyable duty, in pursuit of pleasure and relaxation rather than due to their love to the Creator of all the Worlds. Allah the Almighty says:

("O our Lord! I have made some of my offspring to dwell in an uncultivable valley by Your Sacred House (the Ka'bah at Makkah); in order, O our Lord, that they may perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), so fill some hearts among men with love towards them, and (O Allah) provide them with fruits so that they may give thanks.)

[Ibrahim, 37]

5-    Forbidden things the pilgrim should refrain from:

After referring to the nature of the place where the Sacred House of Allah is situated, and what the weather looks like there, I would like to mention the things the pilgrim after being in the state of Ihram (The state of consecration in which the pilgrims are during Hajj or 'Umrah. After putting on ihram [first meaning] and making the intention of ihram [second meaning], the pilgrims enter automatically the state of ihram, which requires them to avoid certain things) should not do.

The pilgrim is forbidden from wearing stitched cloths, from wearing perfume,  from shaving, from cutting his hair, and from enjoying the pleasures permissible at times other than the time Hajj, only for the purpose of establishing a solid connection with Allah and achieve happiness through being near to Him, alone, and away from any interference of the worldly enjoyments. As a result, the pilgrim will be sure that if he gets close to Allah, he will gain everything else, and, and that the whole worldly life cannot make man gain such happiness. Furthermore, he will spontaneously calls out, "O Lord, What has he missed who found You? What has he found who missed You?"

Conclusion

To sum up, Hajj is an act of worship that is based on a unique connection with Allah, Exalted and Sublime be He, and the cost is complete devotion, which is fulfilled only in Sacred House of Allah since it requires leaving one's homeland, family and friends, shouldering hardships and dangers of travel, and spending one's money just in pursuit of Allah's Pleasure. Well, performing this act of worship costs man a lot, but the results are fruitful.

Fruits of performing Hajj:

1-    Sins are forgiven:

Pay attention to the following Hadith, please:

(Narrated Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, said: I heard the Prophet, peace be upon him, saying, "Whoever performs Hajj (pilgrimage) and does not have sexual relations (with his wife), nor commits sin, nor disputes unjustly (during Hajj), then he returns from Hajj as pure and free from sins as on the day on which his mother gave birth to him.")

[Al-Bukhari]

Hajj deletes all the sins committed before performing it and the accepted Hajj is rewarded by Jannah.

2-    The pilgrims performing Hajj and Umrah are a delegation to Allah

Regarding this point, here are some Ahadeeth:

(It was narrated from Abi Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "The pilgrims performing Hajj and Umrah are a delegation to Allah. If they call upon Him, He will answer them; and if they ask for His forgiveness, He will forgive them.")

(It was narrated from Abdullah that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: The Messenger of Allah said: "Alternate between Hajj and Umrah; for those two remove poverty and sins just as the bellows removes filth from iron, gold, and silver - and there is no reward for Al-Hajj Al-Mabrur except for Paradise.")

(It was narrated from Buraydah bin Al-Husaib, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Spending money for performing Hajj, is like spending money for the sake of Jihad (Fighting in Allah's Cause); the dirham is rewarded 700-folds.")

[Ahmad]

What should the Muslim do before going to perform Hajj?

In order to performed this great act of worship in a way that Allah may accept it and be pleased with it, man should do certain things, so that the money spent, the time spent, the efforts paid and the hardship born will not be in vain, nor will be said to him as reported in the following Hadith:

(…'Your call is not accepted; nor are you welcome…)

1-    Returning to Allah in repentance:

Before going to perform Hajj, the pilgrim should repent from all sins; the major and the minor ones.

2-    Returning rights to their owners:

Whoever intends to perform Hajj should first refrain from earning ill-gotten money and from having illicit affairs. Also, he should return the rights to their owners, in particular those of mankind, because people's rights have to be redeemed, while those that have to do with Allah are based on Allah's Forgiveness. Hence, man should return rights to their owners and abandon committing sins before performing Hajj.

3-    Intending not to commit the old sins once again after Hajj:

The main thing to do is abandoning the old sins after getting back from Hajj, lest Hajj will turn into a rite rather than an act of worship. Well,   it is a grave mistake and delusive for the pilgrim to take for granted that performing Hajj blots out all the sins previously committed and that all his sins will be forgiven, because according to the opinion agreed upon by scholars the sins that are forgiven (as mentioned in the Hadith) after performing Hajj have to do only with the ones between the servant and His Lord.

As for the sins man commits and causes by them harm to other people, the rights he deprives others of and the duties he does not fulfill properly towards other people are never forgiven except through fulfilling the duties and asking for people's forgiveness.

In fact, sins are of three types; A sin that is never forgiven, namely Shirk (polytheism), a sin that is never neglected, namely the sin that has to do with people, and a sin that can be forgiven, which has to do between the servant and his Lord.

Symbols of Hajj:

Allah the Almighty says,

(Verily! As-Safa and Al-Marwah (two mountains in Makkah) are of the Symbols of Allah. So it is not a sin on him who perform Hajj or 'Umrah (pilgrimage) of the House (the Ka'bah at Makkah) to perform the going (Tawaf) between them (As-Safa and Al-Marwah). And whoever does good voluntarily, then verily, Allah is All-Recogniser, All-Knower.)

 [Al-Baqarah, 158]

1-    The meaning of symbols:

Masha'er (Symbols) refer to the signs, landmarks and the rituals of Hajj. In other words, they are the deeds the pilgrim has to perform while offering Hajj. The singular is Mash'ar, and Allah the Almighty mentions it in the following Ayah:

(There is no sin on you if you seek the Bounty of your Lord (during pilgrimage by trading, etc.). Then when you leave 'Arafat, remember Allah (by glorifying His Praises, i.e. prayers and invocations, etc.) at the Mash'ar-il-Haram. And remember Him (by invoking Allah for all good, etc.) as He has guided you, and verily, you were, before, of those who were astray.)

[Al-Baqarah, 198]

Mash'ar: It is the singular of Masha'er, and it means the obvious landmark. The Sacred Masha'er are the Sacred places, so do you not think that the pilgrim should have sacred feelings while he is performing Hajj?

2-    The sacred feeling is represented by love to the beloved

Should the pilgrim while circumambulate the Ka'bah in the Sacred House of Allah not feel the love which is felt by the lover to his beloved? Should he not feel while walking between Safa and Marwa, like the one striving hard to achieve his goals? Should he not regret his sins and return to Allah in repentance and penance while kissing the black stone? Should he not feel how great the meeting with Allah is and how ecstatic the connection is while standing at Arafat Mount? Should he not feel that he is putting an end to the lusts that veil him from His Lord while sacrificing the animal for the Sake of Allah? Should he not manifest his everlasting hostility and enmity to Shaitan (Satan) while he is stoning him? Should be not feel when he stands at the Prophet's tomb at Ar-Rawada Ash-Sharifah, that he is in real Paradise?

In brief, the pilgrim should have, while performing the Hajj rituals in the Sacred Masha'er, sacred feelings, which differ according to the places and rituals. In other words, each ritual makes him have a special feeling.

Material values are valueless in Hajj:

In the life of the straying man, there are overwhelming and demanding materialistic values, which are somehow untrue standards according to which man is evaluated in the materialistic society. These standards are like wealth, power, beauty, and intelligence, and they are greatly misleading as they constitute a barrier between man and his real human nature, the Divine Message in life (he is assigned to deliver to others), the purpose of his existence and the ultimate inevitable end. After man leaves his present life for another life which is eternal and everlasting, he will be shocked, when all materialistic values collapse before him, all unreal scales are broken down, all fake masks are dropped off, all misleading barriers are removed, but unfortunately this will be too late. He will be shocked when his mundane work is evaluated by virtue of his knowledge of his Lord and His Divine Method, his steadfastness upon His Order, and the bulk of his righteous deeds by which he helps other creations. Lest man should be shocked in his final journey, Allah the Almighty ordained Hajj on whoever is physically able and can afford its expenses. Furthermore, this act of worship is decreed to be the journey that precedes the last one, so that man gets himself well prepared through its valuable lessons for the final journey after his death.

The pilgrim comes to the Sacred House of Allah, bareheaded, barefooted, wearing nothing but a simple wrapper, and free from any garments that show his wealth, rank or power. Moreover, the pilgrim takes off, together with his garments, the masks of wealth, power, might and rank, and he heads towards the Sacred House of Allah to circumambulate and perform the rituals of Hajj, finding no special places for the rich or other ones for the poor. It is but one place for the rich and poor, the rulers and the servants, and for the strong and the weak. Indeed, in the Sacred House of Allah all differences among sons of Adam vanish, and the only preference is piety and fear of Allah. Allah the Almighty says:

(O mankind! We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know one another. Verily, the most honourable of you with Allah is that (believer) who has At-Taqwa [i.e. one of the Muttaqun (pious)]. Verily, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware.)

[Al-Hujuraat, 13]

Dropping off all ranks and having equality are two prominent merits in Hajj.  The pilgrim becomes so touched by the grandeur of the situation, and he is overwhelmed by a state of submissiveness, so his eyes overflow with sincere tears. Besides, he turns to Allah, making Du'a with submission and returning to Him with repentance, asking for His Forgiveness. In such a place, the great crowds around him are wrapped in white coverings that look like confines, making him remember the Day of Resurrection where all people stand before Allah, the Lord of all Worlds. Truly, Hajj is the last-but-one journey to Allah and a good reminder of the last journey to Him.

Ability is a major condition for performing Hajj:

Ability (physical and financial) is basic condition for performing the obligation of Hajj. Allah the Almighty indicates that in the following Ayah:

(In it are manifest signs (for example), the Maqam (place) of Ibrahim (Abraham); whosoever enters it, he attains security.

[Aal-'Imran, 97]

1-    The ability to perform Hajj in general:

The ability is the physical, financial and secure one. Therefore, the Muslim who knows for sure that he is physically unable to perform the rituals of Hajj or the one who is advised by a pious expert specialist Muslim physician not to pay physical efforts is exempted from performing Hajj himself, and he is permitted to authorize someone else, during his lifetime or after his death, to perform Hajj on his behalf. In addition, the Muslim who is financially unable to afford expenses of Hajj, such as transport, accommodation, food, as well as the expenses of his family in his hometown, is unable to perform Hajj.

2-    The Muslim should not use twisted ways to perform Hajj:

The Muslim should not ask rich people for money to perform Hajj, nor should he use twisted ways to collect the expenses of Hajj, because this means he is unable to perform it in the first place, and so he is exempted from performing it.

Those who are responsible for regulating rules and organizing people in a way that enables pilgrims who have not performed Hajj yet to come to Makkah and perform it safely prevent people who perform Hajj recently from performing it until five years pass since the last time they performed Hajj. Hence, if you are not allowed to perform Nafl (supererogatory) Hajj for this reason, you do not have to use twisted ways that enable you to perform it. In this case, you are considered unable to perform Nafl Hajj, and you are exempted from performing it.

3-    The money to be spent on performing Hajj should be Halal:

Since the Hajj is a financial act of worship which requires spending money, the money to be spent in performing this obligation should be Halal (lawful).

(Abu Hurairah narrated: Allah's Messenger, peace be upon him, said: O people! Allah is Pure and, therefore, accepts only that which is pure.)

[Muslim]

The following Hadith indicates this point:

(Abu Hurairah narrated: The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "As soon as a pilgrim sets out for Hajj, and he puts his foot in the stirrup (rides his mount) and calls out, 'O Allah! Here I am in response to Your call,' an announcer from the heavens above answers him back, saying, 'Your call is accepted, and you are welcome. Your food and provisions are Halal; and your pilgrimage is free from sins and is acceptable. On the other hand, if a pilgrim sets out for Hajj with a provision which is unlawfully gained, and he puts his foot in the stirrup (rides his mount) and calls out, 'O Allah! Here I am in response to Your call,' an announcer from the heavens above answers him back, saying, 'Your call is not accepted; nor are you welcome; your food and provisions are unlawful, and your pilgrimage is not free from sins and is unacceptable.)

[At-Tabarani in Al-Awsat, on the authority of Abi ]

Since Hajj is enjoined on those who are able, the poor are not considered able. Therefore, they are not supposed to borrow money to perform Hajj.

(Abdullah bin Abi Awfa said: I asked the Prophet, peace be upon him, about the one who borrows money to perform Hajj, and he said, "He should not do that.")

[Al-Bayhaqi]

The one who is in debt and he would like to perform Hajj should ask for the permission of the debtor, least his Hajj will not be accepted.

Avoiding forbidden matters in Hajj:

Hajj is an act of worship Allah the Almighty has ordained on the one who can afford its expense and is physically strong and healthy once in a life time. Thus, if the pilgrim commits mistakes in performing its rituals, by missing a ritual, forgetting a duty, leaving out a certain act of Sunnah, being keen on performing a certain act of Sunnah while violating a sanctity, committing a sin or doing something forbidden, he may spoil his whole Hajj or may have to sacrifice an animal as an expiation for his misbehavior, negligence or failure to perform what is proper. If he does so, he would miss a unique opportunity which might never be repeated; namely, the chance of having his sins forgiven and deserving his Lord's Paradise. He may do that due to ignorance which is the most detested foe of man, because an ignorant person can do more serious harm to himself than his enemies can do to him.

Because of these mistakes that might be committed, we say: Dear Pilgrims, get well instructed before you perform Hajj, and keep in mind the following Hadith:

(One Faqih (knowledgeable man) is more formidable against the Shaitan than one thousand devoted worshippers.)

Also, "Having little Islamic knowledge is better than spending a lot of time in worship." Therefore, ask people of knowledge if you do not know.

Since waiting for the time of Salat to perform it is considered part of performing Salat, learning rules and principles of Hajj is a part of performing it. Unfortunately, there are pilgrims whose Hajj is unaccepted and considered invalid due to committing mistakes, such as forgetting to perform circumambulating, exceeding the spatial Miqt (a Miqat is the principal boundary point of an area, within which Muslim pilgrims on the Hajj must be in the state of Ihram), not being in the state of Ihram, or committing forbidden things while thinking that he is doing something good.

Can man perform Hajj more than once:

1-    It is permissible to perform Hajj more than once at certain conditions:

Man's prudence is manifested in acting according to the priorities in his life. Therefore, if the Muslim performs the obligatory Hajj, and he yearns to perform Hajj for the second or third time, and he is physically strong and can afford its expenses after getting the permission of those who are responsible for him, after helping a Muslim to perform the obligatory Hajj, and after fulfilling all his duties towards his parents, household, relative, friends and neighbors, he is allowed to perform Hajj for the second, third or fourth time.

In fact, Hajj is equal to Jihad whether it is perform by the young, the old, the women and the week. Regarding the point I have just mentioned, pay attention to the following Hadith Qudsi, please:

(Whoever has good health and wealth, then five years pass by him, and he does not come to visit Me, is surely a deprived person.)

[Al-Bayhaqi]

2-    Helping the son to get married is favored over Nafl Hajj:

If a Muslim have already performed the Fard (obligatory) Hajj, and he has a son at the age of marriage, it is preferable to help him get married fearing that he may get morally deviated if he does not do so. Hence, getting him married is favored over performing Nafl Hajj, because preventing mischief is favored over performing good deeds, and Allah does not accept performing a Nafl act of worship at the expense of abandoning a duty.

(…And he, to whom Hikmah is granted, is indeed granted abundant good. But none remember (will receive admonition) except men of understanding.)

[Al-Baqarah, 269]

One of the Du'as of the Prophet, peace be upon him, is the following:

(O Allah, a Hajj in which there is no showing off nor reputation sought.)

[Al-Jame' As-Sagheer, on the authority of Anas]

It means that seeking showing off or good reputation out of performing Hajj manifests the pilgrim's moral deviation.

Abdullah Ibn al-Mubarak was making his way to perform a Nafl Hajj. When he entered Kufa he saw a young woman sitting at a garbage heap plucking a dead duck. It occurred to him that it was carrion so he asked her if it had been sacrificed. She replied that it had not been. "Then why are you plucking it?" He asked bewildered. She replied, "So that my family and I can eat it." He informed her that it was not permissible to consume since it had died on its own. She said, "My brother and I have only one piece of clothing. We have no food except what we find thrown in the dumps. Carrion has become permissible for us to consume for a number of days now (due to severe poverty). Our father was a rich man but his wealth was taken from him oppressively and he was killed." Abdullah Ibn al-Mubarak asked regarding her family's whereabouts and she informed him. So he hired a man to take him there and when he found the house, he released his riding animal and gave it to the household along with all the goods that were on it. He handed over almost all of the money he had to the young woman, the money that was the provision for his Hajj, keeping only what was sufficient for his journey back to his land, Marw. He gave his provisions away saying, "This is better for us than our Hajj this year." When his companions returned from Hajj, they came to congratulate him on his Hajj too. He said, "I did not go this year…" One of them said, "Subhan Allah! Did I not leave my possessions with you whilst we were at Mina and on our way to Arafat?" Another said, "Likewise, did not you buy things for me?" He turned to them saying, "I do not know what you are saying. As for myself, I did not go on Hajj this year." Later that night, he had a dream wherein a voice called out to him saying, "Rejoice O Abdullah! Allah accepted your act of charity and He sent an angel in your form to carry out the Hajj on your behalf."
[Tartib al-Madarik by Qadi Iyad and Ibn Kathir]

Ibn al-Mubarak believed that giving Sadaqah to the needy and poor was preferable to performing Nafl Hajj. Regarding the same point, I would like to refer to another incident. A man asked the Egyptian scholar Dha Noon, "I have a 100 Dirhams, should I perform with this money Hajj or should it give it as Sadaqh to the needy and poor?"  Dha Noon said, "Did you perform Fard Hajj?" The man replied, "Yes, I did." Dha Noon said, "If you distribute this amount to the poor families, giving each one 10 Dirhams is better in Allah's Sight than performing Hajj an-Nafl. If you wish you may listen to my advice." The man did what Dha Noon told him and he gave the money as Sadaqh to the poor families.

Quran inimitability in the following Ayah:

There is still one more indication in the Ayah of Hajj which reflects the Quran inimitability. Allah the Almighty says:

(And proclaim to mankind the Hajj (pilgrimage). They will come to you on foot and on every lean camel, they will come from every deep and distant (wide) mountain highway (to perform Hajj).)

[Al-Hajj, 27]

Ameeq (is the word in Arabic, and it means far and deep), and here in the Ayah it means deep and distant, but why do you think Allah, may His Glory be glorified means distant rather than far?

(…From every deep and distant (wide) mountain highway (to perform Hajj).)

[Al-Hajj, 27]

The adjective distant is used to refer to a fact concerning the shape of the earth, which was not known at the time when the Quran was descended, but what is it? Where is the inimitability in this Ayah?

Dear noble brothers ponder over the adjectives used in this Ayah:

(…from every deep and distant (wide) mountain highway (to perform Hajj).)

[Al-Hajj, 27]

Why do you think our Lord does not use the adjective far to describe the places from where people come to perform Hajj in Makkah? If you cannot guess the correct answer, then ask those who have good knowledge.
