The True Meaning of Giving: A Sign of Sincerity with Allah

Why is charity (ṣadaqah) called ṣadaqah?
Because it shows a person’s sincerity and honesty with Allah.
There are many good deeds a person can do that cost nothing. For example, after the Friday sermon there are many instructions and reminders that require no effort or expense. But when Allah commands us to give in charity, He asks us to give money—and money is something people naturally love.
If Allah had not placed love of wealth in the human heart, giving it away would not lead to spiritual growth. If He had not placed desire in people, lowering the gaze would not elevate them. And if He had not placed an attraction to trivial things, avoiding them would not raise one’s rank.
Every command Allah has given is meant to lift you and bring you closer to Him, the Almighty.
