Ramadan Excerpts 1444 H (Lesson 1): How is Tranquility Casted into the Hearts of the Believers?

In the Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Dear brothers, by Allah, I am pretty sure that there is no greater blessing than tranquility. Indeed, if it is casted into the heart of the believer, he will be extremely happy even if he has lost everything.

Yunus (Jonah), peace be upon him, was granted tranquility when he was inside the whale. Actually, has was inside three sorts of darkness: the darkness inside the whale, the darkness of the sea and the darkness of the night. Allah the Almighty says:

﴾ (And (remember) Dhan-Nun (Jonah), when he went off in anger, and imagined that We shall not punish him (i.e. the calamites which had befallen him)! But he cried through the darkness (saying): La ilaha illa Anta [none has the right to be worshipped but You (O Allah)], Glorified (and Exalted) are You [above all that (evil) they associate with You]. Truly, I have been of the wrong-doers."* So We answered his call, and delivered him from the distress. And thus We do deliver the believers (who believe in the Oneness of Allah, abstain from evil and work righteousness).) ﴿

[ [Al-Anbiya', 87-88] ]

Allah, May His Glory be glorified, has made the moral lesson of this incident as a universal rule. Allah the Almighty says:

﴾ (And thus We do deliver the believers (who believe in the Oneness of Allah, abstain from evil and work righteousness).) ﴿

[ [Al-Anbiya', 87-88] ]

Accordingly, dear noble viewers, no matter how severe the calamity is, it cannot be as severe as finding yourself in the belly of a whale, where the possibility of survival is zero. I repeat, when Prophet Yunus, peace be upon him, cried in the darkness, Allah the Almighty saved Him:

﴾ (And thus We do deliver the believers (who believe in the Oneness of Allah, abstain from evil and work righteousness).) ﴿

[ [Al-Anbiya', 87-88] ]

Allah the Almighty decreed to make Du'a the greatest weapon the believer has. In fact, Du'a is the source of power for the believer. Furthermore, by Du'a, you get whatever you want, but if you depend on yourself, thinking that you can get whatever you want without making Du'a to Allah the Almighty, you will get nothing. This is what the noble Companions thought in Hunain Battle; they depended on their great number, thinking that it was enough for them to defeat their enemy, and they forgot about making Du'a to Allah to make them victorious. On the other hand, in Badr Battle, they showed their weakness to Allah, they made Du'a to Him to make them victorious, and they put their full trust in Him after making use of all the available means, so they won the battle.
