Ramadan Selections 1447H- Lesson 26: The Night of Al-Qadr is better than a thousand months

In the Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, Most Merciful

The night of Al-Qadr is better than a thousand months:

Allah, Exalted and Sublime be He, says the following about the night of Al-Qadr:

﴾ The night of Al-Qadr (Decree) is better than a thousand months (i.e. worshipping Allah in that night is better than worshipping Him a thousand months, i.e. 83 years and 4 months). ﴿

[ Al-Qadr, 3 ]

Because there are both a lunar (Hijri) calendar and a solar (Gregorian) one, Ramadan moves from one season to another over the years. As a result, Laylat ul-Qadr may fall on any night of the year throughout history.
The Night of Al- Qadr is not merely a fixed date; it is a state of closeness to Allah the Almighty. This state is more likely to coincide with a specific night that comes within Ramadan, which is the month of the Quran.

﴾ Verily! We have sent it (this Qur'an) down in the night of Al-Qadr (Decree). ﴿

[ Al-Qadr, 1 ]

If you want to reflect more deeply on this fact, consider this question: When was the Prophet, peace be upon him, truly prepared for the Quran to be revealed to him? It was when he made a just estimate to of Allah such as is due to Him:

﴾ They made not a just estimate of Allah such as is due to Him. And on the Day of Resurrection the whole of the earth will be grasped by His Hand and the heavens will be rolled up in His Right Hand. Glorified is He, and High is He above all that they associate as partners with Him! ﴿

[ Az-Zumar, 67 ]

Laylat ul-Qadr is the night when you make a just estimate of Allah such as is due to Him; when you truly know His Greatness, His Perfection, His Most Beautiful Names and His Exalted Attributes, His Forbearance, His Mercy, His Wisdom, and His Non-Finite Perfection, and . Wwhen you know what He has prepared for the believers of everlasting bliss.
When the focus is Allah, Exalted and Sublime be He (His Majesty and Perfection)—that is the essence of Laylat ul-Qadr.

﴾ Verily! We have sent it (this Qur'an) down in the night of Al-Qadr (Decree). ﴿

[ Al-Qadr, 1 ]

The Prophet, peace be upon him, is addressed in this Surah. However, every believer, according to the depth of his faith and the sincerity of his striving against his own self, is granted by Allah Divine Assistance from Allah. Furthermore, he is granted success, guidance, closeness to Allah, steadfastness upon the truth, and a heart filled with security.

﴾ Verily! We have sent it (this Qur'an) down in the night of Al-Qadr (Decree). ﴿

[ Al-Qadr, 1 ]
