Scientific topics from sermons- lesson (102)- Water: And we have made from water every living thing

In the Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Importance of water for the lives of creatures:

Dear believing brothers, Allah the Almighty says:

(…And We have made from water every living thing.)

[Al-Anbiya', 30]

Water is the essence of life for human beings, animals and plants on earth, as it is the only agent that carries mineral salts and nutritional elements to the living creatures. In other words, without water, the life of human beings, animals or plants on earth would be impossible.

Believe it or not,  16.000.000 tons of rainwater fall down on the earth per second! Allah the Almighty says:

(And in the heaven is your provision, and that which you are promised.)

[Adh-Dhariyat, 22]

This rain is the major factor for life on earth. One more thing, the  downfall of rain manifests clearly Allah's Beautiful Name Al-Lateef (The Most Subtle, The Kind).  Well, it simply does, because if the rainwater kept falling down continuously on the surface of the earth, it would destroy everything, and it would make life on earth impossible. So, due to Allah's Infinite Divine Mercy, Wisdom and Kindness, rain falls down in the form of tiny drops in a way that is most gentle, merciful and wise.

What does this Divine Bestowal indicate?

I have recently read that thanks to the heavy rain that have fallen down this year (1988), the rural areas in our country, Syria, produced abundant yields of grass and pastoral plants worth 10 billion Syrian Liras. Praise be to Allah the Almighty for bestowing upon us heavy rain, and so saving us great amounts of money paid for fodder.  Allah the Almighty says:

(And in the heaven is your provision, and that which you are promised.)

[Adh-Dhariyat, 22]

This Ayah indicates clearly that our food would not exist without the rains that fall down from heaven by Allah's Infinite Divine Might, Mercy and Wisdom.

One of our noble brothers in faith told me that this year there are incredible abundant crops of fruit and vegetables, so I said, "Glory be to Allah!"  It is He the Almighty Who sets prices of all things, because when He sends down abundant rain, harvests increase and prices go down. Once again, I repeat Allah's Words:

(And in the heaven is your provision, and that which you are promised.)

[Adh-Dhariyat, 22]

He the Almighty also says:

(And there is not a thing, but with Us are the stores thereof. And We send it not down except in a known measure.)

[Al-Hijr, 21]

Undoubtedly, Allah the Almighty is the All-Provider, Owner of Power, the Most Strong.

The idea that 16 million tons of rainwater per second over the whole surface of the earth, and the idea that abundant downfall of rain (in 1988) saved us from paying 10 billion Syrian Liras for fodder, surely have their great significance in the sight of true believers:

(Verily, this is Our Provision which will never finish)

[Saad, 54]

(To each these as well as those We bestow from the Bounties of your Lord. And the Bounties of your Lord can never be forbidden.)

[Al-Isra', 20]

(Then let man look at his food*That We pour forth water in abundance* And We split the earth in clefts* And We cause therein the grain to grow* And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle)* And olives and date-palms* And gardens, dense with many trees* And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.)* (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle.)

[Abasa, 24-32]
